KUMABLOG    OTHER POSTS next blog
(NOTE: this last update was made 11/21/05. Any future updates will appear on our myspace page. Sincerely, The Management.)

So my initial thinking that this blog would be updated on a weekly basis was highly unrealistic. Monthly seems much more feasible, though this second entry comes a bit later than even that. Quality, not quantity!

We have a gig on 12/11 (yes, I know - a Sunday). We're more of a Wed-Sat band, but seeing that we haven't played Arlene's Grocery before, we have to prove our awesomeness (ability to bring people down on the worst night possible) first. I've actually played there twice before, but that was on bass for another band. Anyway, you should come. We have new material, after all. Then again, we always have new material when we play. But we only play a couple of times a year. 2006 looks to be much more active. For crissakes, just come already!

I've seen some shows since we last spoke. They were good. You should have been there.

That feature on PerfectSoundForever.com was very flattering. Thanks Kurt Wildermuth!

Oh, about those new songs: they kick ass. Really.

So, what have I been listening to? If you could just shut up for a minute I could tell you.

1) Guided By Voices/Suitcase 2 - did I ever tell you about that time I met Robert Pollard outside of Irving Plaza? He was a super nice guy. I met him again this week! See below...
2) Sonic Youth/Murray Street - did I ever tell you about that time I meet Lee Ranaldo at a J. Mascis show? Also super nice.
3) Puccini/Tosca - That Maria Callas biography they've shown on PBS about eight million times inspired me to get a hold of this.
4) UNCUT presents Funk Soul Brothers & Sisters - first, they broadcast a documentary on Parliament Funkadelic. Next, the White Stripes are popping up on Charlie Rose. Man, that PBS is hip!
5) The Strugglers/You Win - recently caught my man Randy at Red & Black in Williamsburg, playing songs from his new album. Go pick it up at thestrugglers.org.
6) Smog/A River 'Ain't Too Much To Love - Nice subtleties in the mix I only picked up on headphones.
7) Joni Mitchell/Blue - I mostly shop at independent record stores, but sometimes J&R has those $6.99 sales that you need to take advantage of.
8) Neil Young/Reactor - I found those gunshot sounds during, um, "Shots", irritating at first, but I was doing my dishes at the time.
9) Ruins/Stonehenge & Burning Stone - these guys seriously bring The Rock. Godzilla!
10) Tower of Power/Live and In Living Color - "You're Still A Young Man" rules.
11) Silver Jews/American Water - I haven't bought the new one, so I'm listening to an old one.
12) Craig Wedren/Lapland - 13 new beauties from the Shudder To Think/Baby mainman. Check out craigwedren.com.
13) Swale/Verdigris - check out my cuz Eric's band at swalesong.com.
14) A bunch of other stuff...

Feel free to e-mail me at
kumarocksu@yahoo.com if you so desire.

I leave you with pics of...

A) Meeting Robert Pollard at a recent book signing for the new Guided By Voices book by Jim Greer. I can't say enough good things about this man. He's the best. Visit robertpollard.net.

B) Congratulating my friend Jacqui on a job well done after her recent Mirelle performance. Hey, who spilled beer on me? Visit myspace.com/mirelle

C) Posing with some fans after a recent gig in Orlando.

D) I spent a brief spell as auxiliary guitarist for the Allman Brothers Band back in '03. This pic of the band was taken just outside of Albuquerque at the Birkenstock Blues Fest.

Until next time, bathing beauties,
Kevin
